Meänmaa in this context refers to the combined municipalities of Kolari and Pajala including inhabitants.

Meänmaa is a project which functions as an instrument for planning and developing a common future for two municipalities located in two separate states. Meänmaa realises the one-door principle by coordinating the municipalities’ and the states’ joint efforts in the area.

The process has been initiated in connection with the preparations for mining operations carried out by Northland Resources Inc. The Meänmaa Project has not required any innovation – it has taken shape of its own accord.

Without the project we would be unable to meet the future challenges in the area.
